Nadeen Terrill, a 4th grade teacher at Columbian Elementary School in Pueblo School District 60 has The Chieftain delivered two days a week. She says, "We use it in language arts for parts of speech and story ideas. The ads work well for math practice and the weather page is great for science and social studies. With the newspaper you always have a fresh resource. There's no doubt the kids like it because they ask to read the paper during their free time."

Cathy Tkacik teaches business, accounting and computer classes at South High School in Pueblo. In her business classes, students summarize articles from The Chieftain explaining their relationship to business and giving an opinion on the topic. In computer class, students scan photos from the newspaper to use for creative writing. The Chieftain is also a source for business vocabulary and statistics. "Students like the newspaper assignments because they are relevant. It's about things that are happening today and happening locally," says Tkacik.

Mike Divelbiss, a social studies teacher at Freed Middle School in Pueblo School District 60, has used the newspaper as a teaching resource for 12 years. Students look for current events related to topics in the social studies curriculum to make their learning more relevant. In the spring Divelbiss uses The Chieftain's stock market game to teach about economics. When his students are finished with the newspapers, they get passed on to the science teacher. "Having a sponsor pay for the newspaper is a tremendous help!" says Divelbiss.
