Spring 2012 Program Registration
TEACHERS! Great news...The Pueblo Chieftain is going green!
Beginning now you can register for all of the NIE programs with the click of the mouse. No paper, no postage, no faxing...no problem. Fill out the form on this page and click "REGISTER NOW" to complete your registration for the following spring programs. These programs will have the standard in-paper lesson pages and the classroom newspapers will still be delivered to the school.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS:
THE CLASSROOM CHIEFTAIN: This very special section, written entirely by students, comes out in The Pueblo Chieftain on Thursday, May 10th. Students submit entries in expository writing, persuasive writing, narrative writing, descriptive writing, cartooning, as well as ad and cover designs. DEADLINE TO REGISTER: Jan. 24th DATES: Lessons to appear in The Pueblo Chieftain the week of February 6-10. Entries due March 2. GRADE LEVEL: K-12 *CAS: Reading/Writing 2, 3; Art 3 NO COST - thanks to Loaf 'N Jug
KID'S GUIDE TO THE ARKANSAS RIVER: A fun educational page about the Arkansas River and its importance for our region. Includes information from a program connection Coloradans to their water - "Colorado Water 2012". DEADLINE TO REGISTER: April 18 DATE: Runs in The Pueblo Chieftain April 26. NO COST - thanks to Pueblo Board of Water Works
ADOPT-A-CLASS: Your classroom will receive 30 newspapers a week for the entire spring semester. (New registrants only - if you are currently an Adopt-A-Class teacher, your papers will continue through the semester) NO COST thanks to individual sponsors.
The Pueblo Chieftain's new e-edition is coming soon...an exact replica of the daily newspaper online!
When it arrives, teachers will have the option to sign up or access to the newspaper e-edition. At that time, the following spring programs (with resources and Colorado Academic Standards) will be available exclusively online. Go ahead and sign up for them now by completing the registration form below. You will be notified when dates for online program availability are determined.
NEW!...SERIALIZED STORY "THE SOLE SURVIVOR": Three
youngsters pull a prank that earns them a day of cleaning out the attic of an
old haunted dormitory at their private school in Minnesota. During the Saturday
morning cleaning project, they discover a treasure chest time capsule from seventy
years before!

DOLLARS AND SENSE: Understanding
how to manage money, setting financial goals, spending and saving wisely and
investing are all covered in this program. A lively and practical 8-part series
helps students track their spending habits and learn to plan ahead for financial
health.

through the lives of 6 men and women who made important contributions to our
